Superannuation Financial Scam Awareness

Financial scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with scammers targeting Australians through phone calls, emails, text messages and even fake investment or superannuation websites.

Recent cyber incidents affecting Australian superannuation accounts have highlighted the importance of staying vigilant and protecting personal financial information.

Common warning signs include unexpected requests for personal details, urgent payment demands, offers of unusually high investment returns, or messages claiming you can access your super early. Scammers may also impersonate legitimate organisations, including your superannuation fund, bank and government organisations (ATO and Centrelink).

To help protect yourself:

  • Use strong, unique passwords and enable 3rd factor authentication where available
  • Regularly check your superannuation and banking accounts for unusual activity
  • Never click on suspicious links or unknown verification codes
  • Verify any financial request directly with the organisation using official contact details
